The drought of official Nintendo news might be making a few fans more desperate and gullible than ever.
Recently, several lookalike accounts have been impersonating Nintendo of America – fooling others with false Nintendo Direct announcements. One such example from is below, which attempts to ride high on rumors about a 10 January Direct. Whether ironically or not, the tweet has already garnered thousands of shares at the time of writing.
A new Nintendo Direct is coming! Be sure to check it out this Thursday at 3 p.m. EST for 40 minutes of news, featuring lots of information about upcoming titles! #nintendodirect pic.twitter.com/1P8TsP8dRb

It’s not hard to see why hundreds fell for the falsehood. Only attentive observers will notice the suspiciously misspelled “@NintendoAemrica” and the lack of a verification tick on the account.
Hopefully Nintendo will be making its own official Direct announcement soon – so that fans won’t have to endure this kind of deception any longer.
