Rumor: Electronic Arts Looking To Be Acquired Or Merged With “A Number Of Potential Suitors”

Following a number of high profile acquisitions in the video game space, a new report has surfaced about another major publisher who is looking to get acquired themselves.

The publisher in question is none other than Electronic Arts (EA), if a report by publication Puck is to be believed. According to reporter Dylan Byers, EA and its CEO Andrew Wilson have allegedly already held talks with “a number of different potential suitors” according to sources familiar with the matter, including titans like Disney, Amazon, Apple, and NBCUniversal. Bryers’ sources also shared that EA has been “persistent” in getting acquired, providing a couple of possible reasons and motivations behind this move:

“In recent years, as media companies have taken greater interest in the rapidly growing gaming industry, Wilson and Electronic Arts have held talks with a number of different potential suitors, including Disney, Apple and Amazon, sources with knowledge of those talks told me,”

“Several sources familiar with these talks say EA has been persistent in pursuing a sale, and has only grown more emboldened in the wake of the Microsoft-Activision deal. Others say that EA is primarily interested in a merger arrangement that would allow Wilson to remain as chief executive of the combined company.”

In a statement issued to Kotaku, EA predictably declined to comment on the rumors, stating that EA continues to enjoy a position of “strength and growth” with a “bright future ahead” for the company:

EA spokesperson John Reseburg: “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation relating to M&A, we are proud to be operating from a position of strength and growth, with a portfolio of amazing games, built around powerful IP, made by incredibly talented teams, and a network of more than half a billion players. We see a very bright future ahead.”

As with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take them with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more details as they come.
