1.5 Million Nintendo Games Were Sold During Christmas In Japan

We’ve recently been talking a lot about Nintendo’s amazing performance in Japan from FIFA 18 to the Switch surpassing PS2’s first year of sales.

Today we bring another piece of great news, this time about the number of Nintendo platform games sold in Japan the week before Christmas (December 18 to 24, 2017). According to Dengeki Online, a whopping 1,475,081 copies of Nintendo platform video games (first party, third party, and indies included) were sold in one week.

To break that figure down into simpler terms, that’s 750,728 units of Nintendo 3DS software (who says the 3DS is dead?), 713,053 pieces of Switch games, and 11,300 copies of Wii U software.

How does that stack up to Nintendo’s closest competitor? Sony has been beaten to the pulp as combined PS4, PS3 and PS Vita sales for the same week stand at 311,916. To break that down it’s 244,231, 3,938, and 63,747 for each platform respectively. They had literally no fighting chance at all.
