85 Year Old Japanese Dies In Pokemon GO Car Accident

An unfortunate accident took place in Japan’s Aichi prefecture with the involvement of Pokemon GO.

According to NHK News, on April 14, 2018, an 85 year old elderly Japanese woman was knocked down by a vehicle, resulting in her death. Police investigations show that the driver, a 43 year old Japanese lady, was driving and playing Pokemon GO on her smartphone at the same time, distracting her from road conditions.

This isn’t the first time such an accident has happened. 2 years ago in Aichi prefecture, a child’s life was lost after an irresponsible trainer was playing Pokemon GO and driving his vehicle at the same time.

To prevent further accidents, Niantic, the developers of Pokemon GO, stopped trainers from playing the game when they are traveling on a high speed. Many road safety campaigns have also been conducted in Japan ever since.

Although players aren’t allowed to catch Pokemon or spin PokeStops while driving, they are able to view and access their Adventure Log and Poke Dex, which was exactly what the 43 year old driver was viewing during the accident on April 14.
