As announced earlier this week, today we received the our first look at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie!

The official Nintendo Direct broadcast introducing the movie has released today, along with an official trailer for the film. The Direct began with Shigueru Miyamoto as he talked about the 40 year history and impact of Super Mario games and thanking players around the world for enjoying these games for so long. We were also introduced to Chris Meledandri from Illumination who shared his experience and updates on where the movie stands in different areas of production.

Then, the movie’s star Chris Pratt talked about his experience growing up playing the game at a laundromat. Alongside our hero, the movie’s villain played by Jack Black also talked about his passion for the film and role.

Finally, the Direct showed us the long-awaited official trailer, where we see Bowser conquer a kingdom of Penguins followed by Mario, Toad, and Luigi each with a few lines previewing their voices for the film. Here it is below, for your convenience:
