In an interview with Nikkei, retiring Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima explained why Shuntaro Furukawa was chosen to lead the company.

According to Kimishima, Furukawa knows how to get the most out of Nintendo’s development teams, a crucial skill needed to manage a company like Nintendo. Kimishima also added Furukawa has spent the last 2 years planning Nintendo’s future.

One of the first things Furukawa is planning to change internally at Nintendo is to create a committee that consists of 5 directors, including himself. The committee will decide on new product ideas together. There seems to be an implication that too many people were involved in the decision making process in the past.
