Animal Crossing: New Horizons Development Started After New Leaf

Nintendo has shared a couple of interesting details behind the development of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

First, we learned when development began for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Nintendo confirmed that development started right after the launch of Animal Crossing: New Leaf in 2013, as the team at Nintendo EPD was thinking about how the game would look like even before the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

It isn’t known, however, whether Nintendo was planning to release Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Wii U.

Besides this, Animal Crossing: New Horizons director Aya Kyogoku confirmed that development on future game updates is currently underway, and plans may change if the coronavirus outbreak worsens. Game producer Hisashi Nogami also added that there is a need to be flexible and the health and well-being of all developers should be prioritized.
