Animal Crossing: New Horizons Lifetime Sales Hit 26 Million Copies Worldwide

It looks like Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still steadily chugging along to success!

In its latest financial report, Nintendo confirmed that the game has sold 26.04 million copies globally since its initial release on 20 March 2020 until 30 September 2020. Out of this figure, 14.27 million copies were sold from April 2020 – September 2020.

Overall, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now Nintendo’s second-bestselling Nintendo Switch title in terms of lifetime sales. In first place is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with 28.99 million copies in lifetime sales.

Many attribute the robust sales of New Horizons to its timely release right before the global coronavirus outbreak which forced folks to stay indoors for weeks or months. It was during this difficult time that the game apparently became a welcome getaway for many – especially with its charming characters and the ability to customize one’s island.
