Capcom Calls Resident Evil 7: Cloud Version An Experiment For Research

In an internal Capcom Q&A, the company has briefly commented on Resident Evil 7: Cloud Version, released for Nintendo Switch in Japan earlier this year.

According to Capcom, the primary purpose for releasing Resident Evil 7: Cloud Version was for “technological research purposes”. Depending on the outcome of this so called research, Capcom will decide whether or not to release more games that stream from the cloud.

Unsurprisingly, Resident Evil 7: Cloud Version “did not have a significant impact” on Capcom’s earnings for the financial quarter of 2018/2019. If earnings are factored into the decision making process for future cloud games, we guess we aren’t going to see much more outside of Resident Evil 7.

“While we did release a certain title supporting cloud gaming in the first half, this was done primarily for technological research purposes and did not have a significant impact on earnings. Based on the results of the research, we will internally consider further expansion into cloud gaming.”
