Detective Pikachu’s Furrowed Face Takes Off As New Fan-Art Trend In Japan

Previously, we shared about an uncanny fan-made statue of Detective Pikachu, which depicted the film character with a furrowed expression. Now, however, it looks like the electric rodent’s scrunched-up face has evolved into something bigger in Japan!

Apparently, Japanese fans have been producing oodles of fan-art with that same hilarious expression – a lot of it. From more statues, to cookies, and even replicating the face on other Kanto-region starters – many seem to be having a blast poking fun at the film.

Finally, one YouTuber even reproduced the hilarious face in latte art form. Check it out below.

It’s certainly strange that the trend has been unique to Japan, so far. Perhaps local fans just aren’t used to seeing Pikachu in a western CGI style. In any case, let’s hope they’re excited for the film’s upcoming release in May 2019!
