Did You Know There Were Rare Variant Wii Discs Released In Japan?

Today we have a very interesting video to share with you from Youtube channel Kikai.

According to Kikai, Nintendo released different variations for various Wii games when they were reprinted in Japan. The different variation is called BO Edition. As these BO Edition games were reprinted in low quantities, they are now considered pretty rare in Japan.

For example, here’s an original Super Mario Galaxy disc (left) and BO Edition Super Mario Galaxy disc (right). Notice the difference in colors:

And here’s the original Mario Kart Wii on the left and BO Edition Mario Kart Wii on the right. Notice how there’s a gold tint on the original and a silver tint on the BO Edition. The location of the Dolby logo is also different:

Here’s how to tell the difference between the original and BO Edition – if the game code contains a “-BO” at the back, it means it’s the BO Edition:

Here are the most rarest BO Edition games in ascending order (percentage refers to how often you’ll find a BO Edition among all copies of that game):

  1. Mario Kart Wii – 39.3%
  2. Wii De Asobu: Mario Tennis GC – 20.6%
  3. Super Mario Stadium: Family Baseball – 17.4%
  4. Mario Party 8 – 9.8%
  5. Super Mario Galaxy – 3.1%
  6. Super Paper Mario – 2.8%

So as you can tell, Super Paper Mario BO Edition is probably one of the rarest BO Edition games out there.
