As many Dragon Quest fans will know, 2021 will finally mark the series’ 35th anniversary. While things have been a little quiet this year, it looks like fans might have some exciting new adventures they can look forward to soon!

During his closing remarks at the Dragon Quest X Fall Festival 2020 on 30 October 2020, series creator Yuji Horii highlighted the series’ big birthday coming soon. Additionally, he added on that the series’ developers would soon be able to make “all sorts of announcements” for this milestone (translation courtesy of Gematsu):

“Thank you very much for today. Next year, Dragon Quest will celebrate its 35th anniversary. I believe we will be able to make all sorts of announcements in regards to that. And there is still a whole lot of fun to look forward to in Astoltia [the world of Dragon Quest X]. Please continue to support Dragon Quest in the future. Thank you very much!”

Of course, Yuji Horii’s vague wording could mean anything at this point. Nevertheless, Square Enix has already confirmed the development of Dragon Quest XII, the supposed development of a new Dragon Quest Monsters title, and a new RPG titled Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Infinity Strash. So it’s quite possible that we might hear more about any of these titles next year!
