Dragon Quest XI S Demo Crashes Could Have Been Caused By Boost Mode

This week, gamers all over the world reported of unexpected crashes while playing the Dragon Quest XI S demo.

Although Square Enix couldn’t figure out the reason behind the crashes, it seems that the crashes could have been caused by Boost Mode, which overclocks the Nintendo Switch from 1GHz to 1.75GHz. Boost Mode was first introduced in the version 8.0.0 update.

This was theorized by Dragon Quest XI S producer Hokuto Okamoto after a gamer commented that while playing the Dragon Quest XI S demo, the Nintendo Switch “becomes incredibly hot” after placing it into the Nintendo Switch Dock.

Okamoto guessed there might a possibility Boost Mode played a part in these crashes, as Dragon Quest XI S uses Boost Mode in event scenes and photo mode to improve the quality of graphics. He says he will have to look further into this.
