Evercade: First Images Of Switch-like Retro Hybrid Console Revealed

Previously, we reported on a new hybrid handheld console competitor for the Switch called the Evercade. Since then, its official website has updated with some new images of the console, along with some of its starting games.

As you can see from the renders below, the Evercade looks pretty much like your standard handheld console. Its got a 4.3-inch screen, a D-pad, and four face buttons, with the cartridges slotting in at the back. The Evercade advertises itself as a hybrid console that can connect to the TV using a HDMI cable, although we’re not sure how exactly that feature will work just by looking at its design.

The official website was also updated with details on the first cartridge that will be released for the console: Atari Collection 1. This cartridge will feature 20 games published by Atari, who is the first videogame publisher confirmed to be on board with the project.

Additionally, the Evercade website also shared the expected price for the console, packaged as Standard and Premium editions.

Standard (inc 1 cart): £59.99 / €69.99 / $79.99
Premium (inc 3 carts): £79.99 / €89.99 / $99.99

While the ability to connect to the TV may sound like the Evercade intends to compete with the Switch, the reveal of Atari Collection 1 suggests that it really is more focused on the retro gaming audience. Although some might consider the pricing a little steep for just 20 Atari games, it could be worth a look provided the console feels comfortable to play and can run the games well.
