Ex-Nintendo Employees Kit & Krysta Discuss Why Nintendo May Have Pulled Out Of EVO 2022

Last week, the organizers of EVO 2022 announced that Super Smash Bros. would not be featured at the event this year, explaining that Nintendo had decided to skip the event.

This decision was met with some annoyance and confusions from fans, as Super Smash Bros. had been an EVO mainstay since as far back as 2007, appearing at least 9 times as a featured game. Smash Bros. had also not been present at EVO the past two years, although there had been some extenuating circumstances.

On their new web show, Nintendo Minute Co-creators and former Nintendo employees Kit & Krysta discussed some possible reasons why Nintendo pulled out of EVO, based on their experiences at the company. Essentially, they believe that the decision boiled down to three things: The fact that Sony now owns the EVO brand, the controversies that the Smash Bros fan community has been involved in the past few years, as well as Nintendo’s recent announcement of official Smash Bros. tournaments with Panda Global.

You can watch their full video on the topic below, though it should be noted that since Kit & Krysta are no longer working at Nintendo, these are mostly educated guesses on their part.
