Facial Recognition Cameras Installed On Pokemon Stand Vending Machines

Today we’ve an interesting report to share with you on the Pokemon Stand vending machines in Japan.

Pokemon Stand are vending machines with a giant LCD screen. The machines dispense Pokemon Center products such as plushies and mugs. There’s also a Pikachu that players can interact with on the screen.

Sometime in September 2018, The Pokemon Company started installing facial recognition cameras on all Pokemon Stand vending machines. These cameras are used for the purpose of “ensuring high customer satisfaction”, restocking goods, preventing goods from selling out too quickly, and other potential services.

The facial recognition cameras do not capture any photos, but derive data based on the customer’s face, such as the customer’s age and gender. Data is sent to The Pokemon Company for analysis.
