Falcom Could Bring More The Legend Of Heroes Titles To Nintendo Switch

Today we have some very interesting comments from Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo, who was taking questions at the Falcom investors Q&A.

During the Q&A, the president was asked whether there’s a possibility The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki would be brought over to the Nintendo Switch and other platforms. Kondo replied said they have a platform strategy of “focusing on PS4 first, then releasing on Nintendo Switch later” for their games.

“The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki will be released in Summer 2020 for PlayStation 4. Up till now, our platform strategy for Japan is to focus on PlayStation. But we also have a strategy whereby we focus on PlayStation 4 first, and later Nintendo Switch. Sales (for Falcom’s Nintendo Switch titles) overseas have been increasing in the last few years, and we are well aware that many players want to play our games (such as those in The Legend of Heroes series) on ‘platforms other than PlayStation 4’.

Speaking of which, I would like to talk about Ys VIII, which we released in cooperation with Nippon Ichi Software on Nintendo Switch. Overseas sales for Ys VIII were not just huge on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, but also Steam. Though core gamers are primarily on PlayStation 4 in Japan, there isn’t such a distinction overseas, as the ratio of core gamers between Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 is roughly the same.

Also, before bringing any title to Nintendo Switch, we will have to assess its sales potential first. So we will closely monitor the situation and feedback to decide which games come to which platforms.”

What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
