Famicom Platformer Youkai Douchuuki Receives Fan Translation

Western fans can now enjoy Namco’s 1987 platform Youkai Douchuuki in English, courtesy of fan-translator jakic.

In Youkai Douchuuki, players take the role of a young boy named Tarosuke, who travels to hell in search of his destiny. The game features multiple paths and endings, depending on how many items you collect and how many enemies you defeat.

Despite seemingly being important enough to be ported to the Wii & WiiU virtual consoles in Japan, and even receiving a medley music track in Super Smash Bros for WiiU, Youkai Douchuuki was never officially released in English. However, thanks to jakic’s fan translation, maybe now English-speaking audiences can find out what all the fuss is about.

Check out some screenshots below, and download jakic’s English patch here.
