Famitsu: Sakurai Says A Chance Meeting Led To Sora Joining Smash Ultimate

Famitsu has published another installment of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate creator Masahiro Sakurai’s column for the magazine, and some translations have begun surfacing online.

In the column, Sakurai reveals an interesting tidbit about how Sora from Kingdom Hearts managed to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as its final DLC fighter. According to Sakurai, the negotiation team initially believed it would be impossible for Sora to join Smash, and it was only because of a “lucky meeting” between Sakurai and a Disney executive at an Award’s show that allowed talks to begin.

An excerpt of this paragraph can be found below via Ryokutya2089, translated via Siliconera:

Sakurai: “There was no doubt that the team involved in the external negotiations thought this would be impossible. But one day, an opportunity appeared. At a certain award venue, I had the chance to meet a Disney executive. I told them that I would like to see Sora in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.. There were a lot of negotiations between Disney, Square Enix, and Nintendo.”
