Final Fantasy XV Director Clarifies Nintendo Switch Port Isn’t Set In Stone Yet

During a Square-Enix livestream at Gamescom, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata teased a port of Final Fantasy XV for Nintendo Switch.

Since then, Tabata has came out to clarify about his teaser. He explained that nothing concrete has been set in stone yet, as the developers are still testing out the Nintendo Switch to figure out its specifications.

As part of these tests, they brought the Luminous Engine, which powers Final Fantasy XV on PS4 and Xbox One, to Nintendo Switch. The developers say they couldn’t “bring out the most of the engine” on the Switch for now. They also mentioned the engine wasn’t optimized for Switch, as they simply loaded it to see how it performs.

Besides the Luminous Engine, Square-Enix tested Unity and Unreal Engine 4 on the Switch, which they said “ran well on the Switch”.

Square-Enix says they will continue to figure out what they can do for the Switch, and bring an appropriate game that will capitalize on the system’s characteristics.
