First Details And Screenshots From Mario Kart Tour Closed Beta

The first Mario Kart Tour details have started leaking from those who have access to the Closed Beta that just started a couple of moments ago.

First, we have learned from the screenshots that Mario Kart Tour is played in portrait mode, rather than landscape mode. Similar to the mainline Mario Kart games there are Grand Prix cups in Mario Kart Tour, compromising mostly of tracks from previously released Mario Kart titles such as Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 7.

Each cup contains three courses and one mini game. Bear in mind mirror courses of existing courses are considered new tracks, and you may see courses repeat in later cups.

Unlike mainline Mario Kart games, there are some differences in Mario Kart Tour, such as auto-accelerate, and two laps in each race. The number of items each player receives upon hitting an item box is dependent on the stage (for example, Toad gets 3 items on a Toad course, but only gets 2 in Donkey Kong Jungle). Gliders give you items at the start of the race if they are compatible with a course, and may raise a certain item’s drop rate.

You control with one hand by swiping the screen. Gyro controls are also supported. Drifting, jumping, karts, and gliders have returned. It also seems you play with others online (up to 8 players) as we haven’t seen any CPU players in the game. The game supports 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc.
