Furukawa Confirms That Nintendo Is Working With Tencent To Bring Switch To China

Earlier today, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa officially confirmed that Nintendo will be bringing the Switch to China with the help of Chinese conglomerate Tencent.

Speaking to reporters in Osaka, Furukawa shared more details about Nintendo’s plans to officially bring the Switch to China, as well as their decision to partner with Tencent. According to Furukawa, there is still quite a bit of paperwork and inspections to be done, and they currently cannot give any estimates for when the launch will happen.

“Tencent controls the biggest foundation in both China’s markets for net communications and games. We can maximize our business expansion in China by working with them. But as we haven’t announced a launch date, we are not including it in our forecasts.”

“Our current applications are just for the hardware, but we’ll also need inspections of our software. We will need many more applications to the government and others, so from that perspective the launch period is still unknown.”

While the initial rumblings of the Switch officially entering the Chinese market sent Nintendo’s stock rocketing sky high, it seems it will be quite some time before their ambitions will be fully realized. We will be sure to bring more news on the Switch’s journey to China as it comes.
