HD Rumble Tools Allow Developers To Easily Create Rumble From Sound Effects

The Nintendo Switch Joy-con’s HD Rumble is one of the most sophisticated rumble system on any game console allowing players to feel a multitude of haptic simulation in a small package. With such sophistication, some may think that HD Rumble might be very hard for developers to implement, but instead, Nintendo’s development kit has a function that simplifies the process from developers.

In an interview with Daylight Studios, the developers remarked that Nintendo’s HD Rumble was surprisingly easy to implement and that they could just use any sound effect they desire to generate an exact wave pattern for the rumble.

For Switch it was better, and it’s crazy also. For the rumble feature, I can use any kind of sound effect I have in the game and generate the rumble effect. So it will actually follow the exact wave pattern. It is so easy to use, I can just input a sound effect and output the rumble.

HD Rumble has given the Nintendo Switch an edge over its other console counterparts, and with the ease of implementation, hopefully, more developers can find interesting ways to utilise the functionality.
