Incoming Nintendo President Wants To Build $1 Billion Mobile Game Fortress

Incoming Nintendo President, Shuntaro Furukawa, has some ambitious plans up his sleeves, especially when dealing with Nintendo’s Mobile Game initiatives. From what was revealed at Nintendo’s financial brief, Nintendo’s current President, Tatsumi Kimishima, said that he wants to build Nintendo’s mobile division into a pillar of revenue. However, it seems like Furukawa wants a ¥100 Billion (US$ 910 Million) pillar. To put things in perspective, Nintendo’s Mobile Game revenue is less than 40% of ¥100 Billion.

According to a interview with Nikkei, Furukawa he wants to achieve his target of ¥100 Billion in mobile games revenue by applying lessons learnt from mobile hits such as Pokemon Go.

“From what I can see, smartphone games are the ones I want to expand the most,” said Furukawa

Nintendo is not taking any conservative approach to mobile gaming, unlike back in the day. Hopefully, this will mean bringing more people into the Nintendo ecosystem.
