Japan: Nintendo Demands 4000 Yen To Fix Warped Switch Despite Valid Warranty

Ever since the day Nintendo Switch launched, there have been reports of bent and warped Nintendo Switch units from users across the world.

In most places, Nintendo would gladly offer to repair these faulty units free of charge, since every Nintendo Switch unit is guaranteed with 1 year warranty worldwide.

This wasn’t the case for an unlucky gamer living in Japan. Twitter user Kumatta sent in their warped Nintendo Switch for repair, and was astounded by Nintendo’s response.

According to Kumatta, Nintendo requested for a payment of 4,275 yen (USD39) before they could fix their warped Nintendo Switch unit. The breakdown of the cost was much more confusing, as Nintendo asked 500 yen for new parts and 4000 yen to repair the console alone.

The technician who inspected the console mentioned that there was “damage to the LCD screen” and “damage to the exterior”. Kumatta reiterated that their Nintendo Switch was working fine, as the only thing that had to be fixed was the warping.

Kumatta was extremely furious with the lack of transparency. The Nintendo Switch was still under warranty, and yet they had to foot the bill. Kumatta doesn’t have much of a choice, as payment has to be made before repairs start.
