Japanese Up In Arms Against Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection’s “Localisation”

As the homeland of the Street Fighter franchise, you would think that they would be getting a little more respect when it came to the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. The game which is slated to release May 2018 was announced to much international cheer but things were a bit different in Japan.

In a report by Siliconera, the Japanese version of Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection will be based on the English localisation of the Japanese games. This means that titles, voices, text, etc., will all be in English when sold in Japan, even though the English version was a localisation of the Japanese version. Even Street Fighter Alpha which was called Street Fighter Zero originally in Japan is going to keep its localised name Street Fighter Alpha in Japan.

As far as celebration goes, this definitely riled up quite a bit of heat within the Japanese fans. Even Platinum Game’s Director, Hideki Kamiya, took offence at it, calling it nothing but a lazy cash grab by Capcom.
