Junichi Masuda And The Pokemon Company Thrashed On Twitter For Not Including All Pokemon In Pokemon Sword & Shield

Earlier this week during Nintendo’s Treehouse Live, Gamefreak’s Junichi Masuda announced that Pokemon Sword & Shield would only allow cross-generation transfers for Pokemon already included in the Galar Regional Dex. As one can imagine, this reveal did not go over well with fans.

Towards the end of Pokemon Sword & Shield‘s Treehouse Live segment, Masuda explained that this decision was made to “preserve the quality of all the different Pokemon” while also “taking into account battle balance” and not “keeping fans waiting too long for every new entry into the series”. In other words, Gamefreak wished to focus on animating and balancing a smaller number of Pokemon for the new games in order to ensure development wouldn’t take too long.

Immediately following the announcement, numerous Pokemon fans took to Twitter in protest of their decision. Some were upset that they might not be able to bring their favorite Pokemon forward from their old games, while others mocked the idea that a Pokemon game wouldn’t actually allow you to “catch them all”. Both Masuda’s and the Pokemon Company’s Twitter accounts were bombarded with backlash, some of which was compiled by Resetera user Joseki below:

As of this writing, there has still been no official word from either Masuda nor the Pokemon Company on whether or not they intend to address the fans’ concerns, be it though post-launch updates for Pokemon Sword & Shield or an updated “third version” a la Ultra Sun/Moon. We will be sure to bring the latest updates on this situation as they come.
