Kadabra May Finally Be Returning To The Pokemon Trading Card Game Soon

Back in 2020, the famous magician Uri Geller released a public apology for his infamous 2000 lawsuit, which resulted in the Psi Pokemon Kadabra being banned from appearing in the Pokemon Trading Card Game.

Now, a little over a year after this apology, it seems that The Pokemon Company might finally be ready to release its first new Kadabra card in 21 years. According to Pokebeach, the sell sheet for the June 2023 Pokemon Card 151 set suggests that all 151 Pokemon will be featured. Alakazam EX is specifically mentioned, which would require a Kadabra card in order to use.

In addition, Geller himself issued a message to Pokebeach, seemingly confirming Kadabra’s return:

“Hi my dear friends. I am pleased Pokemon fans are excited to see Kadabra return to the card game. Look, I want to thank the Pokemon fans who reached out to me over the last [few] years. Including the ones from PokeBeach, who kept contacting me nonstop. So basically, it was you and my granddaughters that got me to change my mind. Now we can all see Kadabra reunited with the original Pokemon in the card game this summer. I love you all. And I admit, totally open and honest. I was a fool. It was a devastating mistake for me to sue Pokemon. [Kadabra] was basically a tribute to Uri Geller. But it’s back now. Forgive me. I love you all. Much love and energy.”

Back in 2000, Geller sued The Pokemon Company to have Kadabra removed from the Pokemon card game due to its Japanese name Yungeller being a reference to him and his spoon bending trick. At the time, he believed the card to be an offensive portrayal of himself, which ultimately resulted in Kadabra disappearing from the card game after 2002. It was only in late 2020 that Geller changed his mind, giving Nintendo and The Pokemon Company permission to make Kadabra cards again.

At the time of this writing however, there has yet to be official confirmation of a Kadabra card being in this set. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
