Kimishima: Nintendo Has Been Trying To Enter China For Over 10 Years

During the recent Nintendo investors’ Q&A session, an investor asked whether Nintendo has found a partner to work with to enter the Chinese market, whether has an agreement been signed, and how high the priority of entering the Chinese market is to the company.

Retiring Nintendo President and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima replied that Nintendo has always been aware of Nintendo fans living in mainland China and hopes that one day they could play Nintendo games just like any person in other countries could.

Kimishima then revealed Nintendo has been working for more than 10 years to enter the Chinese market, but despite their efforts, they have not found a solution of doing so. He explained that Nintendo could not enter China by their own, and while there are many Chinese companies who wish to partner with Nintendo, there are many problems yet to be solved and finding a partner would not simply make those problems disappear.

Thus, as consultations and research on the Chinese market continues, Kimishima believes it will not be soon before Nintendo enters mainland China.
