Capcom Wins Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Koei Tecmo

Today Koei Tecmo announced Capcom has won part of a patent infringement lawsuit filed against them.

Capcom claims two patents (3350773 which will be referred to as A and 3295771 referred to as B) have been infringed by Koei Tecmo. Patent A for the Three Kingdom Warriors and Samurai Warriors series of games and Patent B for the Fatal Frame series were infringed by Koei Tecmo.

The Osaka District Court has dismissed the infringement for Patent A, but accepted there was infringement involved for Patent B. Koei Tecmo has been ordered to pay Capcom 5.17 million yen (USD45,909) in damages for the patent and lawsuit fees.

Koei Tecmo says they will be more mindful on respecting the intellectual property of other companies when developing games in the future.
