How The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s main theme was made

Nintendo has added a new blog post which details the work that went into The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s main theme.

Music supervisor Kataoka says that the inspiration for the main theme came from the game’s focus on the world and environment. He wanted to express the world’s natural beauty and relentless environment in the BGM. In addition, he wanted to express Hyrule’s long history in the BGM.

There were various worries over the use of musical instruments. To portray a degenerated and variegated world, the typical orchestra had to make use of fairly instruments such as the bamboo flute and Erhu. To contrast with the essence of an ancient civilization, the music was mixed with a synthesizer. Chord progression from classical music was partially included in the end result.
