Mint copy of Super Mario Bros. goes for a whopping $30,000

A mint copy of Super Mario Bros. in its original packaging was just sold on eBay for $30,100.44 (link) and the seller has confirmed that the transaction was successfully completed.

The game in focus was a well preserved Super Mario Bros. for the NES with its original packaging, hang-tab and price tag. Thus to no surprise, the 30-year-old game manage to go out at such a high price even though the no-reserve auction started at only 1¢. This goes to show that hardcore game collectors are willing to spend the extra bucks to pay the right price for a well preserved antique game.

The same seller also managed to sell four other factory sealed games for $11,200 (link), which included the infamous E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for Atari 2600 and the NES hit Kid Icarus. You can read more about the sales in Kotaku’s report here.
