Miyamoto: Nintendo Wasn’t Slow With Virtual Reality And Online Subscription Services

During the 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, an investor asked what was Nintendo planning to do with cloud services and streaming services, new technology that are frequently discussed in the video game industry.

The investor added that Nintendo is seen as a “slow company” when it comes to adopting new technology such as Virtual Reality.

Nintendo representative director and fellow Shigeru Miyamoto told the investor that he believes Nintendo wasn’t tardy in adopting Virtual Reality or online subscription services. He explained that Nintendo is “always experimenting with new technology”, and just because they have nothing to announce doesn’t mean they weren’t testing things behind the scenes.

Miyamoto added that it was important for Nintendo to find the right balance for new technology. He explained that they had to find the right price point and offerings for Nintendo Switch Online, and a suitable way for Nintendo Switch owners to enjoy Virtual Reality through Nintendo Labo.

Rushing into the market without getting these things right would only bring up more problems. Nintendo’s priority, Miyamoto quipped, is making “fun products for everyone”.
