Mobile Game Profits Still Not Up To Nintendo’s Expectation

Nintendo can be considered a newcomer into the smartphone games market, therefore it is trying its best to learn everything they could. As a result, their smartphone games profits are still not up to expectations.

Speaking at Nintendo’s financial brief, Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima, said that despite the unsatisfactory profits, he hope to develop Nintendo’s smartphone business as one of the pillars of revenue for the company.

For the smart-device business, we will continue the services for existing applications while also releasing new applications in order to increase Nintendo’s presence in this business. The efforts we have made to date have yielded certain responses to our goal of expanding the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP. Even so, we have not reached a satisfactory profit point yet, so our goal is to further expand the scale of this business to develop it into one of the pillars of revenue.

Nintendo has said that their entry into the smartphone games market is to promote their IP so that fans who have enjoyed their games on the mobile devices will hop over and join Nintendo’s own console games. Still, Kimishima hopes that at least they can earn from it in the process. You can read the full financial brief transcript here.
