Modders Transform The Virtual Boy Into A Working Console For Televisions

Ever wanted to experience the small library of Nintendo’s failed Virtual Boy system without hurting your poor eyes? Well, the hard work of some talented tinkerers has made that dream possible today!

Retro console modders iFixRetro recently revealed that they were able to modify the goggle-shaped system into a regular videogames console instead. Along with a 3D-printed case, the new set-up actually plays Virtual Boy games on the television with all of their red-tinted glory!

The feat wasn’t mere child’s play, however. Namely, the modding team had to use another modder’s Servo Emulator to fool the Virtual Boy motherboard into thinking that it was running on the usual Virtual Boy headset – despite actually outputting to a TV. They also installed a Virtual Tap board to give players the option of adjusting the output for various TV screen sizes!

It definitely seems a little excessive for the sake of revitalizing the Virtual Boy, of all things. That said, we’d be pretty pumped to have something as cool as this on our own shelf!
