Mortal Kombat 11 Is The First 3rd Party Switch Game To Use Higher GPU Speeds In Handheld Mode

Today we have a very interesting piece of news about Mortal Kombat 11 running on Nintendo Switch.

Hackers have discovered Mortal Kombat 11 is the very first third party Nintendo Switch game where the GPU runs at 460mHz in Handheld Mode. Only two other Nintendo Switch games run at 460mHZ – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, which are developed by Nintendo.

The reason why this is significant is because no other third party Switch game has ever used the 460mHZ GPU speed profile before. The maximum they could go is 384mHZ. Of course, the higher the GPU speed, the faster the battery depletes, but you will see better performance and graphics.

It’s unknown whether Nintendo specifically disallows third party developers from gaining access to higher GPU speeds, or the developers themselves feel 368mHZ is enough for their needs.
