Multiple Reports Surface Of EU Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire Copies Failing To Load

Players who own Pokemon Omega Ruby and or Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS may want to load them up for a quick check sometime soon.

Over on Reddit and ResetEra, reports have been flooding in about Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire cartridges failing to load at an unusually high rate. According to some users in the threads, this has been a persistent problem ever since 2019/2020, and seems to primarily affect copies in the EU. That said, there are also many reporting their EU copies of the games are still working properly, so it is somewhat unclear exactly how widespread this issue is.

Interestingly, the original Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire games on the GBA had a similar issue where berries would stop growing 366 days after the game was first played. At the time, patching the this bug required players to either use a different Pokemon game, bringing it to a store, or sending it to Nintendo for fixes.

At the time of this writing, it is unclear whether this new issue plaguing Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire cartridges is a similar bug, or perhaps the natural result of degrading hardware seven years after the games’ original release.
