Nintendo has released a statement of apology receiving reports from multiple new Switch owners in Japan who received faulty consoles out of the box.
According to the reports, several customers in Japan were encountering an error code “2162-0002” when trying to set up their newly purchased Switch consoles. As there is currently no fix for this error, these new Switch owners were unable to get past the system set-up screen and thus unable to make use of the console.
In response, Nintendo released an official statement on their Japanese support website acknowledging and apologizing for the issue. Any customers affected were directed to contact Nintendo through an online inquiry form for a replacement console.
As the Christmas season is fast upon us, hopefully Nintendo can find a more convenient fix for this error before the fault becomes too widespread in Japan or elsewhere.
