Nintendo Applies For 40 Pokemon Trademarks In Japan

Nintendo has recently applied for a massive amount of Pokemon trademarks in Japan, covering a wide assortment of Pokemon and other related items.

Around 40 trademarks were applied for in total, and were presumably filed in preparation for upcoming merchandise or other events. The trademarks are as follows, divided up into different categories for easy reading.

  • ゴリランダー (Rillaboom)
  • ラビフット (Raboot)
  • Rabbifuto (Raboot)
  • バーン (Cinderace)

  • Poképark

This set of trademarks has a few interesting things of note, which opens the gateway for some minor speculation on our part:

  • Pokemon marked in Red are currently not available in the Galar Pokedex, and these trademarks could provide a hint that they are returning to the game, likely as part of the upcoming Dex Expansion.
  • Notably, when Farfetch’d and Snorlax were trademarked before Pokemon Sword And Shield‘s release, they received new forms in the base game. This could mean that some of these trademarked old Pokemon will receive similar treatment for the DLC.

Of course, without any official word from the Pokemon Company, there is no guarantee that either of these ideas hold water. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.

[Minor Update]: Adjustments made to the article due to incorrect info about Galar Pokedex Pokemon.
