Last month, Nintendo announced an expansion for their Switch Online retro game catalogue to include N64 and Sega Genesis games.
When the expansion was first announced, there was some concern whether the Nintendo 64 catalogue would be running at 50Hz instead of the usual 60Hz. This is because during the 80s and 90s, many games for the EU were converted to run in 50Hz to be compatible with the region’s television standards, which reduced the speed of games by up to 10%.
Thankfully, Nintendo UK has since released a statement confirming that all English Nintendo 64 games on Switch Online will run at 60Hz. In addition, some games can also be switched to the European PAL versions via language options.
At the time of this writing, Nintendo has yet to announce when this expansion will go live for Switch Online, although it was estimated to be sometime in October. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
