Nintendo Closing The Limited 3DS/Wii U eShops In Certain Latin American And Caribbean Countries

Still have some 3DS or Wii U games to re-download or update from the eShop? You may want to do so soon, if you live in select regions.

Nintendo has announced that it will be closing the limited 3DS/Wii U eShops in certain Latin American And Caribbean Countries from 31 July 2020 onward. These limited eShop stores offered simpler functions such as redeeming download codes for games and updating existing ones.

Thankfully for some fans, these closures do not include the Mexico and Brazil eShops – so those will continue operating as normal. for everyone else, the end of July is the deadline.

You can read a roughly translated excerpt below:

“In certain Latin American and Caribbean countries, the limited version of Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS consoles offered some basic functions such as the ability to redeem codes. This limited version of the Nintendo eShop will close from July 31, 2020 and users in the affected regions will not be able to access it to redeem download codes, download programs again or update their programs. So we urge users to take these actions before the closing. Also, programs that require the limited version of Nintendo eShop to operate may stop working. Take into account that Mexico and Brazil will not be affected. Thank you all for using Nintendo eShop and for being great Nintendo fans.”
