Nintendo Eshop Payments Suspended “Temporarily” In Russia

Nintendo has issued a statement regarding eshop operations in Russia.

According to an official statement on Nintendo.ru, the Russian eShop has suspended the processing of payments in the country, and has been “temporarily”  put into maintenance mode, essentially pausing its operations. This is apparently because the “payment service” used by the eShop has stopped processing purchases in rubles, the Russian monetary currency. This statement is backed up by reports from fans, who report being unable to access the eShop in the affected region.

A translation of the statement can be found below, via Google:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Nintendo eShop
Due to the fact that the payment service used in Nintendo eShop has suspended the processing of payments in rubles, Nintendo eShop in Russia is temporarily placed into maintenance mode.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will share updates as the situation develops.

Although not explicitly stated, this ceasing of operations is likely tied to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has seen many industries pulling out of Russia or otherwise suspending operations there. We will be sure to report back with further details should they become available.
