Nintendo Files For Three Animal Crossing Trademarks In Japan

Nintendo has applied for three trademarks related to Animal Crossing in Japan.

The first two trademarks are for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and あつまれ どうぶつの森 (Atsumare Doubutsu no Mori), the English and Japanese name of the upcoming Switch entry into the Animal Crossing franchise. These two trademarks are primarily related to “downloadable video game programs” and “planning and management of game competitions”.

What implications these have for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is unclear, but might suggest that some sort of competitive PVP element is being planned for the game.

The third trademark is for the name “Animal Crossing” in general and is more merchandise related, including “stationary, bags, and clothing etc”. This is likely in anticipation of more Animal Crossing merchandise being produced in the future as the series continues to grow.
