Nintendo Game Releases May Return To Saturday In Japan

Did you know Bayonetta 1 and 2 are launching a day later in Japan?

In North America and Europe, both games will release on February 16, 2018, which is a Friday. Things have slightly changed in Japan as both Bayonetta 1 and 2 will launch on February 17, 2018, a Saturday.

Usually most first party Nintendo Switch games launch on the same day worldwide (Breath of the Wild was on March 3, Splatoon 2 on July 21), and that has (almost) always been a Friday in the past few years.

Back in the day when both Wii and DS were reigning the video game market, Nintendo released new games on Wednesdays and new consoles on Sundays. This policy eventually evolved to where we are today – all first party console and game releases on Friday.

It’s been a long time since Nintendo has released a game on a Saturday. We aren’t very sure whether Bayonetta 1 and 2’s release date will change releases in Japan to Saturday, but we’ll get a concrete answer once Nintendo starts revealing release dates for their other upcoming releases in 2018.
