Nintendo Planned A Similar Lineup Of Games For Switch And 3DS In Their Third Year

ResetERA user Cengizhan has made an interesting observation on the release schedule for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS software in their third year of launch.

According to Cengizhan, Nintendo has cleverly picked similar games released in the Nintendo 3DS’s third year (2013) to be released in the Nintendo Switch’s third year (2019). Below you’ll find a comparison that shows how aligned the releases between both systems are:

Nintendo Switch (2019) : Nintendo 3DS (2013)

New Super Mario Bros. 2 : New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Fire Emblem Awakening : Fire Emblem Three Houses

Luigi’s Mansion 2 : Luigi’s Mansion 3

Animal Crossing New Leaf : Animal Crossing (tentative)

Pokemon X/Y : Pokemon 2019 (tentative)

Back in 2012, Nintendo was struggling with Nintendo 3DS sales as the system was selling very badly and there were little appealing games. Nintendo claimed this was a “momentum problem” and fixed the issue by releasing many appealing 3DS games in 2013. This turned around the 3DS’s fortunes.

We can now see Nintendo employing the same strategy they used for the 3DS in 2013, this time with the Switch. The same strategy, if played right, will most likely ensure the Switch will continue to be an appealing system with an appealing lineup of releases in 2019.
