Nintendo Pledges To Continue Supporting 3DS Despite Shocking Decrease In Sales

As you would probably have known by now, Nintendo has been insisting on supporting the Nintendo 3DS in the future, with new software and limited edition hardware.

In today’s fiscal earnings report, the company reported a 65.1% decrease in Nintendo 3DS hardware sales (1 million units) on a year-on-year basis for the second quarter of 2018/2019, and 54.6% drop in software sales (6.27 million units) on a year-on-year basis.

Despite the massive drop in both hardware and software sales, Nintendo has promised to continue releasing new titles for the 3DS well into the future. They are also banking on the evergreen Nintendo 3DS library to move sales, and cater towards the younger audience.

“We will continue to leverage the platform’s rich software library and its hardware install base to further expand sales of evergreen titles.”

It seems Nintendo is unsure of the direction they should take after the 3DS, so we will probably see the 3DS hanging around even until 2020. Upcoming 3DS titles by Nintendo include Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story+ Bowser Jr.’s Journey and Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn.
