Nintendo Switch Sales Increasing In Asia And Middle East

During the Nintendo Investors Q&A session, an investor noticed a spike in Nintendo Switch sales growth for a region called “Others” in Nintendo’s fiscal year earnings release. The investor asked what the reason was for the spike, what are Nintendo’s plans for “Others”, and which countries are labeled under “Others”.

Tatsumi Kimishima, the retiring Nintendo President and CEO, told the investor that the regions which constitute under “Others” include Southeast Asia, Middle East, East Asia excluding Japan, and South America.

As the Nintendo audience is growing in regions such as Asia and Middle East, sales have gradually increased. Through Nintendo’s smartphone business, more people living in said regions have been exposed to Nintendo IP.

Kimishima pointed out due to large interest in Nintendo Switch in Asia and Middle East, sales have increased for “Others”, even though most countries in both regions are represented by distributors rather than Nintendo themselves.

Although Nintendo isn’t completely aware of market conditions in Asia and Middle East, nor they have the confidence or concrete plans for both regions, they wish to expand their business in those regions, including in places such as Central and South America.
