Nintendo Switch Video Game Sales Increase 90% In 2018 In The United Kingdom

Today we’ve received a report on the overall state of the video game market in the United Kingdom for the year 2018.

According to the report, overall the video game industry hasn’t been doing well in the UK in 2018. Physical video game revenue dropped by 2.8% to 770 million pounds in 2018, while sales fell by 7.1% to 22 million units. 2.5 million consoles were sold in the entire year.

Despite the terrible performance across the board, Nintendo Switch saw improvements in both video game and hardware console sales. In fact, it was the only platform which saw an increase in the number of games sold from 2017 to 2018.

Nintendo Switch physical game sales increased 90.1% over 2017, while revenue jumped by 73.4%. 24% of all video games sold in 2018 belong to Nintendo Switch, while 42.2% went to PS4, 30.5% from Xbox One, 2.1% from Nintendo 3DS, 0.7% from PC, 0.2% from Wii, and 0.2% from Xbox 360. Nintendo Switch hardware sales went up by 20% over the previous year.
