Nintendo Takes Down Fanmade Mario Port For The Commodore 64

In what seems like an inevitable outcome, the impressive fanmade port of the original Super Mario Bros onto the Commodore 64 has been struck down by Nintendo.

It all happened less than a week after developer Zeropaige first unveiled the finished port following 7 years of hard work. The file quickly began vanishing from numerous hosting platforms, and was eventually confirmed to be the work of a DMCA takedown by the Commodore Computer Club website.

While it is unfortunate that the port has become another victim of Nintendo’s harsh stance on copyright infringement, the files for the port are likely still roaming around out there if one knows where to look. That said, its rather odd that Nintendo came down this hard on the project, especially since its a port of their oldest game for a platform that’s pretty much dead commercially.
