Nintendo Tokyo’s Opening Day A Huge Success, All Tickets Distributed And Some Merch Selling Out

Yesterday, the official Nintendo Tokyo store opened its doors at PARCO Shibuya mall, Japan. Amidst huge queues and outstanding demand to enter the store, it looks like things are going swimmingly for Nintendo’s first retail foray in the country!

According to the official Nintendo Tokyo Twitter account, entry tickets for the store have been running out pretty fast. In fact, the store had to apologize to various fans queuing up, as not all of them were able to gain entry to the store on opening day.

“[Notice] Today’s numbered ticket distribution has ended. Even if you come from now on, you will not be able to enter the store. I’m very sorry for everyone who was unable to enter the store even though they visited in the rain.”

Additionally, several merchandise items are already flying off shelves much faster than others. In particular, the official store Twitter noted that its exclusive Zelda series mugs and Splatoon messenger bags would be in short supply due to overwhelming demand. As such, customers may not be able to get one over the weekend.

“[Notice] Some items, such as Zelda’s warm mug and Splatoon’s messenger bag, are currently out of stock. It will be sold as soon as it arrives from tomorrow, but it may be out of stock depending on the timing of your visit. Thank you for your understanding.”

It also looks like the crowds on this weekend and beyond won’t be lightening up soon. As we write this, new Tweets from the store have noted that Saturday’s entry tickets have run out as well! The Japanese people really love their Nintendo merch, for sure.

Here’s hoping that demand will even out to a more reasonable level eventually. We’ll report back when we hear more.
